Sandwich Harbour Full Day

Add to calendar:
Sandwich Harbour, nestled within the Namib Naukluft Park, stands as a captivating landmark where dune and sea converge in the southwest of Walvis Bay, creating an awe-inspiring natural attraction.

Embark on our comprehensive full-day tour commencing at 10:00, an unparalleled blend of exploration featuring the Pelican Point seal colony and the renowned Sandwich Harbour. Our meeting point is our office located at the Walvis Bay Waterfront, 1st Floor, BoardWalk building.

Our journey commences with a visit to the serene Walvis Bay Lagoon, followed by a traverse through the expansive salt evaporation ponds. En route to the Pelican Point Peninsula, where the seal colony resides, we navigate the narrow sandy stretch separating the bay from the Atlantic Ocean. Along this path, encounter a weathered shipwreck, a poignant testament to mankind's struggle against the sea, while also catching glimpses of flamingos, pelicans, terns, and the bustling colony of Cape Fur seals.

Continuing from the seal colony, we meander along the shoreline, veering into the Kuiseb Delta's dry riverbed steeped in the ancestral history of the Topnaar people. Here, witness the wildlife, including the graceful springbok, seeking sustenance amid the delta's arid landscape.

The pinnacle of the tour awaits at Sandwich Harbour, where ever-shifting sands and spring tides create an ever-changing landscape. As you approach the towering wind-sculpted dunes, a sense of entering a realm apart envelops you. Remnants of a bygone era, including the remnants of an old whaling station and its erstwhile community, are juxtaposed against the tranquil freshwater lagoon and the peculiar greenery of this unique coastal wetland.

Indulge in a light lunch featuring Walvis Bay oysters, soft drinks, and champagne, expertly served by your guide at a suitable spot, allowing you to savor the panoramic views.

The return journey culminates with a visit to the boundless roaring dunes, a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable day of exploration.

Anticipate a return to Walvis Bay around 16:30, enriched by memories of a day spent immersed in nature's splendor and historical intrigue.
